Practice Plus
GP appointments by phone or video.
When your medical centre is closed and you need to see a GP as soon as possible, you can book an appointment for a Practice Plus phone or video GP consultation. Practice Plus is also a good option if you cannot get to your medical centre – if you are away, or feel too unwell to drive for example.
GP care in Marlborough provides the first point of contact for most health needs, offering ongoing, community-based medical support and services.
Practice Plus clinicians – GPs and nurses – can privately and securely treat most medical needs, illnesses and injuries. They can prescribe medicine, to be picked up from your usual pharmacy, and have access to your patient notes, lab results, hospital records and prescription history.
They will always let you know if you need to be seen in-person or should go to the Urgent Care Centre or Emergency Department at Wairau Hospital.
Most medical centres in Marlborough offer Practice Plus, but you don’t need to be enrolled with one to use Practice Plus either.
-
You access Practice Plus through most medical centres – phone your centre as usual or use their online booking system.
While Practice Plus works best as an extension of your regular GP care, you do not need to be enrolled with a medical centre to access Practice Plus.
-
Practice Plus fees depend on your age, the length of your consultation and whether or not you have a Community Services Card. They are also different for international patients – people who are not eligible for public healthcare in New Zealand.

Practice Plus is not appropriate for:
· emergencies or urgent medical conditions or concerns
· concerns that require a physical examination or procedure (eg vaccination)
