- Hospice update – introduction of new specialist, a refresher on referrals and how they are managed, urgent referrals, how to directly contact medical team at hospice when needed.
- Pain: How to choose your opioid/adjunct, when do we use methadone in palliative care
- Sublingual medications update – includes refresher of common sublingual medications how to prescribe Fentanyl/Midazolam spray, and recent changes in supply or Pharmac funding for some medications.
- Also, opportunity to take any Q & A from the floor.
Presenters:
Dr Rachel Everitt (Palliative Medicine Specialist). Rachel joined Hospice Marlborough in November 2024. Originally from Rotorua, Rachel completed her medical training at Otago University and spent her early years as a junior doctor in Wellington. After nearly five years of training and specialising in palliative care in Australia, Dr Rachel has returned to New Zealand, bringing her passion for providing holistic, quality care to patients and their whānau. With a background as a General Practitioner in both Wellington and Rotorua, she brings a wealth of experience to her role with Hospice Marlborough.
Jo Hendrickson (Nurse Practitioner) Jo is a nurse practitioner and a member of the Medical Team at Hospice Marlborough. Originally from the West coast where she grew up in a farming family, she worked for many years in Coronary Care and ICU at Grey Base Hospital, before moving to Nelson and falling into palliative care at Nelson Tasman Hospice. Jo moved to Marlborough in 2004 and after a year at Wairau Hospital, joined Hospice Marlborough as one of the first 3 community nurses. Jo proceeded to complete her Clinical Masters over several years and eventually her Nurse Practitioner qualification.
