Green Prescription is a support and motivation service for adults 18 years and over who would like to become physically active. It is a Ministry of Health funded initiative and therefore FREE to access through your doctor. Your doctor may prescribe you a Green Prescription to help you with weight control, depression, anxiety, diabetes control, and much more…
Green Prescriptions usually consist of three consultations four weeks apart, one face to face and two via the phone . There is some flexibility with this and clients may correspond more or less frequently, via email, txt message or have all consultations in person. After 12 weeks should you feel you need continued support a repeat Prescription may be issued.
Many health professionals may prescribe Green Prescriptions including doctors and practice nurses. Registered nurses, diabetic nurses, cardiac nurses, Maori health nurses, midwives, mental health/addiction specialists and dieticians, can also prescribe Green Prescriptions with a doctor’s sign off.
Green Prescription is not a substitute for medication it is written advice to GET ACTIVE!
Fit to Live is a 6 week “Healthy Living” programme for people who qualify for a Green Prescription. Sessions are 2 hours once a week, focusing on goals, improving eating habits and improving physical activity. Past groups have been successful at supporting each other to make healthier changes.
